Our Story
Lena Torres opened The Wooly Nook because she couldn't find the kind of yarn shop she actually wanted to shop in β one that felt warm and unhurried, where every product on the shelf had been chosen because someone truly loved it. The Nook began as a pop-up at Austin's weekend markets before finding its permanent home, and from day one, the reception from the Austin maker community was extraordinary.
Our mission is simple: help people make beautiful things. Whether you've been knitting for forty years or you just discovered crochet last Tuesday, you belong here. We take the time to learn what you're working on, suggest the right fiber and tools for your skill level, and cheer you on every step of the way. This isn't just retail β it's a gathering place for makers of all kinds.
We are fiercely committed to supporting local and independent artisans. The majority of the yarns you'll find at The Wooly Nook are sourced from small-batch dyers and family farms, many right here in Texas. We believe that buying handmade and buying local ripples outward in the best possible way β strengthening the creative economy and keeping craft alive in our community.
Lena hand-selects every skein, every needle set, and every pattern book that comes through our door. Nothing gets a shelf spot unless it meets the Wooly Nook standard: quality you can feel, value that respects your effort, and a story worth telling. We're proud to be your neighborhood yarn shop, and we can't wait to meet you.

"I want every customer to leave feeling inspired and supported β that's the whole point."

What Customers Say
Don't just take our word for it β here's what some of our favorite regulars have to say.

"I stumbled into The Wooly Nook on a Saturday afternoon and walked out two hours later with three skeins of that gorgeous hand-dyed merino and a new circle of friends. Lena helped me pick colors for a shawl I'd been putting off for months. She even sent me home with a free sample of the alpaca blend. This is exactly the kind of shop Austin needs."

"I took the beginner knitting class here in January and it completely changed my weekends. The class was small, relaxed, and Lena was endlessly patient with my wobbly tension. Six months later I just finished my first sweater using the Texas Chunky yarn. I'm in the shop almost every week now and the staff remembers my name and my projects. That kind of warmth is rare."

"The Wooly Nook is my happy place. I've been to yarn shops in five different cities and this is the one I'd move neighborhoods for. The selection is thoughtful without being overwhelming, the prices are fair, and the vibe is just so genuinely friendly. I bought my daughter's first knitting kit here for her birthday and Lena wrapped it beautifully. My daughter now calls it 'the cozy yarn store' and that says everything."
